I’m interested in the intersection between design, travel and business. I’m a graphic designer and I’d say my eyeballs are on point. I can spot a double space from 2 meters and guess the typeface in 3 seconds. But – I dislike clients, sitting still, having a desk and staring at a screen, so I had to get creative. I’m also interested in lifestyle design, so it makes perfect sense to push the concept of ‘designer’ a little further.

Travel has always been my first love. Aged four, I smugly showed my granny how to do up her seat belt on the plane. Aged 14, I had been to seven continents, and at 18 I bought a one way plane ticket from the UK to big sunny Australia, never to return. Since then I have been on countless adventures, been to 50+ countries, spent seven years solo on the road and incorporate travel into my life in any way I can.

But here’s the clincher – it’s on a tight budget. Business wise I’m very creative in how things are done – partly, because I have no idea what I’m doing, and partly, I think that resourcefulness will get you a long way, mixed with a ton of enthusiasm and you’re good to go.

Not going to business school has been a real plus, and just looking at things in the most efficient, effective and fun way has lead to some great results; think hitch-hiking for 3 months around New Zealand for “work” whilst growing our audience by 10,000 people, or a 2 year roadtrip around the USA growing our audience by 70,000 people.

I’m obsessed with business models, how you can hack systems and leverage what you have, even if it isn’t much at all. I travel 10 months a year, run my company The Design Kids that helps 100,000 people graduate into awesome design jobs, and organise a remote 35 person team from the back of my van. I also own a shack in Tasmania where I run design residencies (@tassiedesignshack).
